The Grade 4-5 Director oversees the after-school program for fourth- and fifth-grade members. This role is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing age-appropriate programs, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for youth. The director administers an effective behavior management system and works closely with the Unit Director to schedule programming across all Union Street Clubhouse areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of an age-appropriate program for 4th-5th grade members that maximizes resources, meets organizational goals, and aligns with the Boys & Girls Club approach to Youth Development. Provide direct service to members.
- Track program outcomes, including academic progress, school attendance, grade advancement, and participation in physical activities.
- Foster a positive youth development environment, ensuring members are actively engaged, feel supported, and receive recognition for their efforts.
- Administer the member behavior management system, including documentation and coordination with the Director of Behavioral & Family Services for additional support when needed.
- Collaborate with the Unit Director to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time program staff.
- Develop staff schedules and ensure staff meet performance expectations.
- Assist with preparing and managing the program budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring alignment with approved financial guidelines.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized program areas and report maintenance concerns promptly
- Promote programs and services through daily schedules, announcements, and marketing materials.
- Manage administrative functions, including recordkeeping and compiling participation and activity statistics.
- Meet with parents as needed to address concerns and provide updates on member progress.
- Perform supervisory responsibilities per organizational policies and applicable laws, including safety, employee management, and conflict resolution.
- Serve as a positive role model to members and staff, inspiring members to achieve their full potential.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in youth programming, after-school programs, recreation, or summer camps (experience may substitute for education).
- Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must pass criminal background and drug screenings.
- Must earn CDL-B license with passenger endorsement. (We will provide training and fees)
- Must obtain active personal auto insurance policy with a minimum of liability insurance.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to manage program expenses and budgets.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong written communication and public speaking skills. Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused in high-stress or large-group settings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Actively supervise and participate in recreational, athletic, and educational activities.
- Stand, walk, run and engage in physical activities for extended periods of time.
- Respond quickly in emergencies to ensure our members safety.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform tasks including bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
- Use general office equipment (phones, copiers and computers).
- Work in various environments, including gymnasiums, classrooms, playgrounds and outdoor fields.
