JOB SUMMARY
| The Learning Center Assistant Director supports the Education Director in planning and delivering age-appropriate, high-impact learning activities and programs for Club members. By engaging directly with youth, running programs, and serving as a mentor and role model, the Program Assistant helps create a safe, supportive, and fun environment where members can learn, grow, and reach their full potential. This position is Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. |
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Assist the Director with supervision of members and implementation of engaging, age-appropriate activities.
- Plan and lead at least one specialty program weekly within your assigned program area.
- Facilitate weekly clubs or group activities for members.
- Model and reinforce the Boys & Girls Club Code of Conduct and Behavior policies with youth.
- Support the Director in supervising part-time staff, ensuring adherence to the Club’s Code of Ethics and staff policies.
- Encourage member participation across all program areas, promoting special events and activities.
- Provide weekly one-on-one mentoring with members to build life skills, encourage healthy choices, and offer guidance around school, home, and personal goals.
- Build positive relationships with youth, fostering trust, respect, and open communication.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and integrity at all times. Perform other related duties as assigned to support Club operations and member success.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- High school diploma required; enrollment in or completion of a degree program in Early Childhood Education, Youth Development, or related field preferred.
- Must be 18+
- At least 1 year of experience working with youth in a school, camp, or after-school program (or equivalent experience).
- Experience leading or coordinating youth activities or events.
- Some supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with program or curriculum development.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook).
- Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
- Ability to pass required background screening.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills with a youth-centered approach.
- Professional, respectful, and team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively with youth, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to remain calm, positive, and solutions-focused in high-energy or stressful situations. Flexible schedule to support after-school hours, school vacation weeks, and summer camp programming.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Actively engage in recreational and educational activities with youth.
- Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies, ensuring member safety.
- Maintain energy, focus, and professionalism during extended shifts in a lively, high-energy setting.
- Lift and carry 25–50 lbs. of supplies or equipment as needed.
- Perform routine physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and reaching.
- Operate office equipment including phones, computers, and copiers.
