Camp Foster Camp Counselor (Summer 2026)

Manchester, NH

The camp counselor provides support to the Group Director to ensure members participate in the daily age-appropriate activities safely, feel welcomed into the group setting, and follow the Club’s rules and policies. 

The summer 2026 program begins on Monday, June 22, 2026. This is a Monday - Friday position with the hours being 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This role does have required paid job training that will take place the week prior to summer program beginning. Details will be released closer to June. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Ensure campers are having fun in a safe way.
  • Take time to get to know the campers each day.
  • Participate in all camp activities assigned and engage with campers.
  • Come prepared to your work shift with proper camp gear such as bathing suit and towel, sneakers, water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, lunch and snacks.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all campers.
  • Manage group behavior using positive reinforcement and conflict-resolution techniques.
  • Serv as a role model by demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Assist with daily schedules, transitions, and attendance tracking.
  • Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL HAVE

  • Must be at least 15 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass criminal background screening.
  • Ability to participate in behavior management and curriculum development.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and help others learn and succeed.
  • Consistently display good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills in a customer-friendly approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to consistently remain calm, focused, and professional in a large group and/or high-stress situation caused by conflict, difficult members, or parents. Ability to be flexible with base hours as assigned by the assigned supervisor to ensure coverage of all open hours of operation of the Union St. Clubhouse and summer day camp program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Actively supervise and participate in recreational, athletic, and educational activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Stand, walk, run, and engage in physical play for extended periods (8 hours).
  • Ability to work in direct sun, with large temperatures swings, with temperatures being up to 100+ degrees.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including the ability to move swiftly to ensure the safety of members.
  • Maintain energy and alertness throughout extended shifts, often in a loud or high-energy setting.
  • Work in various environments, including gymnasiums, playgrounds, classrooms, pools, wooded areas, and outdoor fields.
  • Lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Perform basic physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Using general office equipment, including phones, copiers, and computer equipment.
