Lifeguard (Summer 2026)

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the pool area at Camp Foster. This includes monitoring activities, preventing accidents, enforcing pool rules, and providing emergency care and first aid when necessary. The Lifeguard plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment for all campers.
The summer 2026 program begins on Monday, June 22, 2026. This is a Monday - Friday position with the hours being 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This role does have required paid job training that will take place the week prior to summer program beginning. Details will be released closer to June.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Maintain constant visual surveillance of all pool areas and/or pond ensuring rapid detection of distressed swimmers or unsafe behavior.
- Responsible for daily pool cleaning during shift.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations courteously but firmly to prevent accidents and maintain order.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies, when necessary.
- Perform water rescues, administer CPR, AED, and First Aid as required, and remain composed under pressure.
- Ensure rescue equipment, and first aid kits are always inspected and fully functional.
- Participate in regular in-service training, skill evaluations, and safety drills to maintain readiness.
- Support fellow lifeguards and aquatic staff by communicating clearly and working as part of a coordinated safety team.
- Stay informed about facility events, pool schedules, pond schedule and activities, and program changes.
- Teach swim lessons
WHAT YOU'LL HAVE
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Strong swimming ability and endurance.
- Exceptional focus and ability to maintain vigilance for long periods.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, decisive, and professional during emergencies. Prior lifeguard experience preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.
- Retrieve a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool (up to 10 feet deep). Ability to work in direct sun, with large temperatures swings, with temperatures being up to 100+ degrees.
